So after you give birth you give birth to the most incredible organ, the placenta. This important organ not only feed, gave blood and nourished your baby, but grew just for that purpose. Pretty wild when you think about it. It’s full of healthy hormones and nutrients.
Did you think about in the wild how animals when they give birth eat all the after birth? There is a reason and its not for cleanliness. Nature knows best.
The placenta if taken after birth has been shown to:
- 1. Increased release of the hormone oxytocin, which helps the uterus return to normal size and encourages bonding with the infant.
- 2. Increase in CRH, a stress-reducing hormone.
- 3. Decrease in post-partum depression levels.
- 4. Restoration of iron levels in the blood.
- 5. Increase in milk production.
All of these I can say I have experienced while taking the placenta capsules. So how does that whole thing work? I’ll tell you.
After the birth my midwife assistant, Katrina took home my placenta and dehydrated it then ground it to put in capsules. She did it on a low setting, so it would be pretty raw and more potent. I take 2-4 everyday and can feel a boost in my energy with in 30 minutes after taking. It is recommended to take up to 6 a day, but for me that was too strong. Every mom is different so you can take what is right for you.
Some women even keep some leftover for PMS, cramping, or menopause.
If you work with midwife, they will have recommendations on doing this after your birth. There are also many websites and providers out there who do placenta encapsulation, just google to find a local one in your area.
If you are in San Diego, feel free to email me and I’m happy to provide Katrina’s information for you to use her.
